Frequently Asked Questions
Coverage & Waste
Carefully measure the width and length of the area you’re looking to cover and multiply these together to get the square meterage.
Our tile calculator will then help you include a percentage for wastage and work out the total area and number of tiles you need to buy.
We pack our products as carefully as possible for delivery, but despite this some products may damage in transit: the industry standard is to allow for up to 7%. In addition to this, you’ll need to cut some slabs for edges or borders.
Finally, no matter how professional you are, we all make mistakes, and you may find that some tiles get damaged or incorrectly cut during the laying process.
We always recommend ordering an extra 10–20% on top of your measured area.
Why? Because no matter how carefully we package the tiles, some products may damage in transit, some will need cutting for edges or borders, and a few might not make the cut (pun intended!) during installation. That extra 10–20% is your insurance policy for peace of mind – it helps you finish the job without last-minute shortages or scrambling for top-ups.
Different batches of tiles can vary slightly in colour or tone, even with the same product. Ordering everything in one go means all your slabs come from the same batch, ensuring a consistent, seamless finish.
Making sure you order enough tiles to start with, also saves you the time, hassle, and additional costs of extra deliveries.
While we do our best to package everything securely, minor edge chips and small amounts of damage (up to 7% of the delivery) are within expectations for wastage.
If damages exceed 7% of your total order, we’ll refund proportionally and, if it’s over 20%, we’ll look into dispatching replacements (just send us clear images of the damage so we can assess the claim).
Delivery
We deliver to all UK mainland addresses. Some remote postcode areas are subject to additional charges and longer lead times, which will be confirmed at checkout.
We also deliver to many parts of Europe but please contact us to discuss your requirements as delivery charges vary considerably.
Delivery to an address other than your billing address is permitted.
We offer free standard delivery to most UK postcodes on orders over £50, which can take up to 3-6 working days. Working days include Monday – Friday and exclude Bank Holidays.
You can choose an Express Delivery option for many of our products which arrives in 1-2 working days. This carries an additional charge of £15 per pallet.
The following postcodes carry a delivery surcharge and costs will be confirmed at checkout: AB, IV1-3, PH8-10, PH15-18, KW1-14, PH19-41, PH49-50.*
There are also a small number of locations which (for example Scottish islands) that require us to provide a quote to confirm the delivery costs. You’ll be advised of this at checkout.
Deliveries normally occur between 8am – 6pm. On rare occasions delivery could be outside of these times, but this is the exception.
Unless otherwise stated, all deliveries will be made to the kerbside or the bottom of the driveway, using a tail lift vehicle.
This vehicle will lower the product to the ground using an electric lift. The pallet of products is then pulled off using a manual pallet truck. It’s really important that the ground that the pallet is unloaded onto is flat and solid. Deliveries are typically made on an 18-tonne vehicle. Access will therefore be needed for a rigid lorry (up to 20 ft.), otherwise additional delivery charges may be applied.
If the delivery location is hard to access (i.e. narrow or unmade roads) please let us know before delivery, so we can arrange for an appropriate vehicle and avoid redelivery costs.
The delivery team aren’t responsible for any additional lifting or carrying of your goods. We don’t deliver items to multiple addresses.
Whilst we’ll always make every effort to deliver the products on the agreed delivery date, we can’t be held responsible for matters beyond our control that results in your products not arriving on the day in question. Please don’t book builders or hire equipment for the day of delivery in case of any events resulting in the scheduled delivery being delayed.
In the unlikely event of your product not arriving on the scheduled delivery day, we’ll normally be able to deliver the products the next working day.
Failure to be at site on a day that has been pre-booked for delivery, or where there is a lack of access available to the site, could incur a redelivery charge of £70 per crate or pallet and upwards. This charge is imposed by the delivery company and we pass these charges on at cost.
Laying Information
You can absolutely DIY – and many people do! But it’s not your average weekend project. Laying paving well takes planning, precision, and a bit of muscle. If you’re confident using tools and can follow detailed steps, it’s a very achievable project. That said, for large areas or tricky layouts, getting a professional in can save you time (and potential do-overs).
A full mortar bed supports every part of the slab, which helps prevent cracking, wobbling, and water ingress.
Avoid the old “dots and dabs” method – it might be quicker, but it can lead to uneven slabs and those dreaded water stains over time.
You’ll need to dig down around 160mm (about 6 inches). That’s enough to make space for a 100mm sub-base, 40mm mortar layer, and the 20mm sandstone slab.
It’s all about giving your patio a solid foundation – no shortcuts here if you want it to last!
We’d recommend a 1:4 or 1:5 mix of cement to sharp sand. Some like to add a bit of soft sand for improved workability.
The texture should be like thick bricklaying mortar – not too dry, not too sloppy. You want a mix that holds its shape and creates suction under the slab.
Give it a little breathing room – let the mortar set for 24-48 hours before grouting.
When you’re ready, use a mix of 1 part cement to 3 parts plastering sand. It should be damp like brown sugar – no drips, no sloppiness. And try to be neat: any grout left on the slab can harden and stain.
